01Overview

Plano ("Plano," "the app," "we," "us") is a voice-driven daily planner for Android: calendar, tasks, notes, an AI chat assistant, weather, an e-book reader, and focus/sleep timers. It's built by Ruslan Maiboroda (contact: r.maiboroda777@gmail.com).

This policy explains what data the app collects, why, where it goes, and what control you have over it.

The short version: almost everything Plano stores lives only on your device. The app has no user accounts, and neither Plano nor its developer runs any server or backend at all, so your content has nowhere to be sent to us. We never sell your data. The main things that do leave your device are: weather lookups, AI chat sent to the provider you choose, ads, and an optional backup to your own Google account — each described in detail below.

02Information We Collect

2.1  Data you create in the app

Tasks, notes, chat messages, reminders, focus-session history, remembered facts, and reading progress are created by you and stored in a local database on your device. We never see this content — Plano has no server of its own, so it is never uploaded to us.

2.2  Location (approximate)

If you grant the "approximate location" permission, Plano uses it to fetch weather for your area from Open-Meteo (see §4). If you decline, you can instead type a city name manually in Settings and the app will use that. Location is used live for each weather request; the app does not log a history of where you've been.

2.3  Microphone & voice input

Tapping the microphone lets you speak commands or dictate notes/tasks. Audio is converted to text using your device's built-in speech-recognition service (on most Android phones this is Google's system recognizer, which may process audio on Google's servers under Google's own privacy policy — Plano does not operate this service). Plano itself does not record or store raw audio; only the resulting text is kept, and only on your device.

2.4  AI chat content

The in-app AI assistant works with a provider you configure yourself — Google Gemini, Groq, and/or OpenAI — using an API key you enter in Settings. When you chat with the assistant, the message text (plus relevant context so it can answer sensibly — such as your tasks, notes, book list, and facts the assistant has remembered about you) is sent directly from your device to that provider using your key. Plano has no server sitting in between, so we never receive a copy. Handling of that data once it reaches the provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy (see §4).

2.5  Calendar

If you enable calendar sync, Plano reads and writes events to your device's calendar app so tasks stay in sync. This stays on-device / within your existing calendar account (e.g., the Google Calendar account already on your phone) — Plano doesn't separately transmit this data anywhere.

2.6  E-books & reading data

Books you import are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Reading position, progress, and covers extracted from the files stay local and are never uploaded to us. (As with other app data, the book list may be included in your own Android Auto Backup — see §2.1 and §5.)

2.7  Notifications & alarms

Reminder notifications and the "fake call" feature use Android's notification, exact-alarm, and full-screen-intent system APIs to alert you at the right time. No reminder content is sent off-device.

2.8  Purchases

Plano offers a one-time optional "Pro" upgrade, processed entirely by Google Play Billing. Google Play handles the payment — Plano never sees or stores your card number or billing details. The app only receives Google Play's confirmation of whether the Pro entitlement is active. See §4.

2.9  Advertising identifiers

Plano shows ads (app-open and interstitial) via Google AdMob. AdMob collects your Google Advertising ID and device/usage signals to serve and measure ads, and may use this data per Google's own advertising and privacy policies. See §4 and §7 for details and your opt-out options.

2.10  What we don't collect

• No account sign-up, so we don't collect your name, email, or password for the app itself.
• No analytics or crash-reporting SDK is currently integrated, so we don't receive usage telemetry.
• No payment or billing details reach us — the optional Pro purchase is handled entirely by Google Play (§2.8); Plano never receives your card or bank information.
• No contacts, photos, or SMS access.

If any of this changes in a future version (e.g., you add crash reporting), update this section and the effective date above before releasing that version.

03How We Use Information

• To run the app's core features — showing your tasks/notes, syncing your calendar, tracking reading progress, running timers.
• To answer your requests to the AI assistant — sent to your chosen AI provider as described in §2.4.
• To show local weather — using your location or manually entered city.
• To send you reminders you've scheduled yourself.
• To unlock the optional Pro upgrade you purchase through Google Play (§2.8).
• To show ads that help keep the app free, via Google AdMob.

We do not use your data to build an advertising profile of you ourselves, and we do not sell data to third parties.

04Third-Party Services

Plano talks to the following external services. Each is governed by its own privacy policy — we encourage you to review the ones relevant to features you use. Only the provider(s) you actually enable and use receive data — for example, if you never add an OpenAI key, Plano never contacts OpenAI.

05Where Your Data Lives

Plano stores its data in a local database and private app storage on your device — Neither Plano nor its developer runs any server, backend, or cloud service — nothing is mirrored to us, because there is nowhere on our side for it to go. There is no Plano account and nothing of ours holding your content anywhere.

Optional Android backup. Android's built-in Auto Backup may copy Plano's on-device data (tasks, notes, reminders, remembered facts, book list) to your own Google account / Google Drive backup, so that reinstalling or moving to a new device can restore your data. This is a device/OS feature — the backup lives in your Google account under Google's terms — Plano has no server of its own involved. You can turn system backup on or off in Android Settings → System → Backup. Your Pro/trial status and per-device UI settings are deliberately excluded from backup.

API keys. AI provider API keys you enter are stored using Android's encrypted storage (AES-256, backed by your device's hardware keystore where available). They never leave your device except as part of a direct request to the provider they belong to, and they are excluded from Android Auto Backup — so they are never copied to your cloud backup.

06Data Sharing & Sale

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only:

• With the AI provider(s) you configure, to fulfill your own chat requests (§2.4, §4);
• With Open-Meteo, to fetch weather for the location you provide;
• With Google Play Billing, to process the optional Pro purchase you initiate (§2.8);
• With Google AdMob, to serve and measure ads;
• With your own Google account, if you leave Android Auto Backup enabled (§5);
• If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Plano, our users, or others.

07Permissions & Your Choices

You can review or revoke any of these at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Plano → Permissions. For ad personalization, you can reset or opt out of your advertising ID under Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, or via Google's own Ads Settings.

08Data Retention & Deletion

Your tasks, notes, books, and settings stay on your device for as long as you keep the app installed. You can delete individual items (a task, a note, a book) from within the app at any time. Uninstalling Plano removes its local database and files from your device.

If you have Android Auto Backup enabled, a copy of your app data may remain in your own Google account backup for a period determined by Android/Google even after you uninstall; you can delete it in your Google account's backup settings.

AI provider chat logs, if any, are retained according to that provider's own policy (§4) — Plano does not control or have access to delete them on your behalf beyond removing your saved API key.

09Children's Privacy

Plano is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required by your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data through the app, contact us (§13) and we'll address it.

10Security

API keys are stored using Android's encrypted-storage APIs (AES-256 with a hardware-backed keystore where available) and are kept out of device backups. All network requests the app makes (weather, AI providers, billing, ads) use HTTPS. As with any software, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we design Plano to keep as much of your data on-device as possible specifically to minimize exposure.

11International Users

Because most of your data never leaves your device, there is generally no cross-border transfer for it to undergo. Where data is sent to a third party (weather lookups, AI chat, billing, ads, or your Google backup), that provider may process it in a different country than you're in, subject to their own compliance obligations (many of the providers listed in §4 offer their own GDPR/UK-GDPR documentation on request).

12Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Plano's features change. We'll update the "Effective date" at the top of this page when we do. Material changes (e.g., adding a new data collection practice) will also be reflected in the app's Play Store listing update notes.
